Emil Runge Joins Launch Chapel Hill as New Director 

Chapel Hill, NC – Launch Chapel Hill is excited to announce Emil Runge as its new Director. Emil brings a wealth of experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development, making him the ideal leader to drive Launch Chapel Hill into its next chapter of growth and impact. 

In his new role, Emil will focus on shaping and defining the future of economic development in North Carolina by fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization in emerging technologies. He aims to develop strategic collaborations with corporate, government, and non-profit partners to create high-impact, high-value partnerships that promote equitable and sustainable communities. 

Emil's impressive background includes serving as Director of Programs at First Flight Venture Center, where he designed and implemented programs to support science and technology startups. During his tenure, he launched the Propeller Early-Stage Accelerator and the Wheels UP Accelerator, which helped over 2,500 companies globally by providing education, mentorship, and access to funding opportunities. 

Re-envisioning the Next Accelerator Model 

At Launch Chapel Hill, Emil is committed to reimagining the traditional accelerator model to better serve the evolving needs of startups and entrepreneurs. His vision includes integrating cutting-edge methodologies and tools, such as AI-driven insights and data analytics, to customize support for founders at various stages of their journey. Emil plans to create a more inclusive and collaborative ecosystem by leveraging partnerships with local universities, investors, and industry leaders. This next-generation accelerator model will focus on building resilient startups that address pressing global challenges, such as sustainability, health security, and digital transformation. 

As part of this vision, Launch Chapel Hill will design and implement an accelerator tailored for the next generation of founders. This model will emphasize deep mentorship, scalable resource access, and real-time feedback loops driven by AI and data platforms. It will also prioritize connecting startups with global markets and aligning them with emerging trends in innovation, including quantum computing, life sciences, green technologies, and immersive digital experiences.
